Wealth, power, prestige, and beauty. There is something all too alluring about the premise of the CW's hit series, Gossip Girl. GG may need to pay homage to the late O.C., but with the backdrop of the Big Apple under its jewel encrusted belt, Gossip Girl climbs to new levels of wicked woes, wows, and wonderfuls. Whether it's the succulent sexcapades, the devious plots, the witty repartee or simply the bebazzling headbands, the Upper East Side has everyone's pearls in a knot. For me, the whirlwind limo ride that is Gossip Girl has become increasingly addictive, as I tune in each week to get a glimpse at the sizzling scandal, style + Leighton Meester. Simply put, I would welcome an anonymous narrator to frame my life with coy and ominous remarks any day of the week. However, not all of us are as monetarily blessed as the Gossip Girl gals. Below are my GG inspired accessory picks for gifts/indulgances. Embody the GG lifestyle for less.
1. Pink Lips Sink Ships
Two faced? B, S + the crew? Debatable. Two faced Girls Dig Pearls Lustrous Lip Gloss from Too Faced is infused with real crushed sea peals that offer 'unparalleled radiance and promote cell rejuvenation for a fresh, youthful look'. A good Gossip Girl knows to keep her strand of pearls within a stone's throw, on the lips will suffice. Get the pout-perfecting, pearly gloss from Sephora for $18 in Mermaid, Pink Bling, Shell or Tropical Pink.
Why Men Love Bitches by Sherry Argov for $9.90
5. Shower Flip Flops.
For Vanessa's darker look, my ultimate fave, OPI's Linkin Park After Dark is a staple. Available on Amazon for $5-$7. I occasionally find it at Target as well or any other retailer that offers OPI Nail Lacquer.
9. Classic Literature
"The complex moral ambiguities of seduction and revenge make Les Liaisons dangereuses (1782) one of the most scandalous and controversial novels in European literature. Its prime movers, the Vicomte de Valmont and the Marquise de Merteuil--gifted, wealthy, and bored--form an unholy alliance and turn seduction into a game. And they play this game with such wit and style that it is impossible not to admire them, until they discover mysterious rules that they cannot understand. In the ensuing battle there can be no winners, and the innocent suffer with the guilty. This new translation gives Laclos a modern voice, and readers will be able to judge whether the novel is as "diabolical" and "infamous" as its critics have claimed, or whether it has much to tell us about a world we still inhabit."
Sound familiar? It was adapted to film in the 80's, then redone in 1999 under a new title. Does a little film called Cruel Intentions ring a bell? It's a must read for any GG fan, as the Gossip Girl novels have strong ties to this original masterpiece.
Not into reading? I suppose we can't all be college-bound, right S? Fine, suit yourself, purchase the book on tape from $5.40 on Amazon.com: http://bit.ly/8iyGDs
I adore them, but they're somewhat difficult to find now. My second pick, these pair of Reeboks I got on sale @ TJ's.
