After struggling up metro-stairwells, plummeting down paved slopes in the scorching summer heat, and rushing through crowded airports to make my connecting flights, I contemplated swooping the original Ruby Slippers that were conveniently on display in Washington D.C.'s American History Museum to aid in my escape from the Nation's capitol. Somewhere in between trekking across the National Mall and dodging sweaty bodies on the metro, I was able to re-read Wicked and to sneak a glimpse of those treasured vintage crimson kitten heels. (No, I didn't steal them.) Trudging home from the bar to discover the Wizard of Oz as the Google Doodle was a sight for sore feet and the ultimate end to my wizard-y week.
